Although I am not a biblical scholar, I do have a Master of Divinity from a top Catholic Theologate. This book will appeal to both the common reader and the scholar. It is extremely well researched yet easy to read. But easy to read does not mean easy to spiritually and emotionally reflect on. Your life will be impacted by reading this book. Even an atheist with any integrity would be left wondering "what kind of love is this?" Even after studying The Passion academically, I learned many new facts and insights from this book from a medical, theological and historical perspective. Be careful not to read this book if you want to keep your faith in a comfortable place. But if you are willing to read the historically documented facts as well as the medical facts of the crucifixion as you never have before, this account will never be forgotten. The physician author even discusses such things as how Christ's blood pressure was effected, and the clinical diagnosis of his pain experience. I will never forget this book!
The details of the crucifixion in the book are amazing, this book, it’s life changing. I have a much more understanding of history and the crucifixion. With his expert medical knowledge Dr. Kubala shed a new light on the crucifixion. It's heart wrenching to think of the real mental and physical torture and suffering that Jesus endured for our salvation. I will read it multiple times, in fact, the book is so well written, I purchased 2 additional books for my parish priest.
This book is easy to read and very interesting. Dr. Kubala has done his research well and his synopsis of the history of the Jewish people and their kings was particularly educational for me. His history of those in power and their relationship to Jesus's execution was very revealing. I had never thought before of the cause of Jesus's death except he had died on the cross but as an emergency physician with over 40 years of experience in trauma I completely agree with Dr. Kubal's findings of Jesus's final cause of death. Dr. Kubala did an exceptional job on his research and theory of the crucifixion and death of Christ. The diagrams of the city and temple helps imagine more clearly how things were set up at that time. He explains the history of the times, the customs of the people, and the different levels of the government. With his expert medical knowledge he shed a new light on my previous thoughts of the crucifixion. It's heart wrenching to think of the real mental and physical torture and suffering that Jesus endured for our salvation. I will never think of the crucifixion in the same way again. I would highly recommend reading this book to everyone. It's life changing.
This book is amazing! It is perfect to read during Lent, but I read it over Advent & know that I will read again & again. I heard the author on Catholic radio & was intrigued with the ideas about Jesus’ crucifixion & about crucifixion in general. It offers important historical information about practices of Romans & Jews of the time that are invaluable to understanding exactly what Jesus endured. Highly recommend!
What an amazingly, enlightening detail of Christ's murder. Fear and greed were the perpetrators. This book has totally changed my perspective about the sacrifice He paid for me. I thank Dr. Kubala, my fellow parishioner, for his work he has shared with me - as I take this story very personally.
Easy & quick read. Holds one's attention. Medical terminology explained in easy to understand wording and explanations. Each suffering and torture well explained. I have read similar books on subject over the years and this is the best.
Dr Kubala takes the reader through the Passion as viewed through the eyes of a scientific medical expert, and explains it in plain English, bringing the medically curious layman into the understanding of what Jesus suffered through.
