About the Author
Julia Wood joined the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill when she was 24. During her 37 years on the faculty, she taught classes and conducted research on personal relationships as well as gender, communication, and culture. She was named the Lineberger Distinguished Professor of Humanities and the Caroline H. and Thomas S. Royster Distinguished Professor of Graduate Education. In addition to publishing 25 books and 100 articles and book chapters, she has presented more than 100 papers at professional conferences and campuses around the country. Her accolades include 14 awards honoring her teaching and 16 awards recognizing her scholarship. She received her B.A. from North Carolina State University, her M.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her Ph.D. from The Pennsylvania State University.

Es desesperante esperar por un paquete que sale de EU a un territorio de EU.! Desde el 14 de febrero que enviaron el paquete a Puerto Rico, aun no me ha llegado y tiene que llega el 8 de marzo??? No entiendo, no estamos en otro Continente, PR es una isla en el Caribe y es Americana. Realmente, no entiendo!!It is exasperating to wait for a package that leaves the US to a US territory! Since February 14, they sent the package to Puerto Rico, it has not arrived yet and it has to arrive on March 8 ??? I do not understand, we are not in another continent, PR is an island in the Caribbean and it is American. I really do not understand!!
I have to read this book for school so I rented it. Now I’m wishing I would’ve bought it because it’s got really great info!!!!! If you wanna get nuts & bolts info on communication, this is a great guide.
needed it for a class and it was okay, easy to read.
I returned to college to pursue a new career in IT and part of the program requires taking a course in interpersonal communication, i assume because the college thinks everyone in IT is on the autism spectrum. Anyway, i already have a bachelors in sociology and spent several years in sales, so effective communication strategies are hardly a new concept to me.The book is rudimentary, the author has a very narrow field of expertise, but speaks on a broad range of topics, many of which she clearly knows little about. Cultural and gender issues are discussed in a manner that relies on broad assumptions and stereotypes. The sections on social media feel like talking about "the facebooks" with your grandmother. The author insists on using unneccicarily esoteric jargon to explain concepts, which forces you to then investigate the terminology (this is an example of objectively poor communication)I can't tell students to leave this one on the shelf because the required reading is the required reading, but professors, please leave this one out of your syllabus.
I don't think I have ever enjoyed a "textbook" as much as this one. While its layout is comparable to one, It doesn't read like a textbook; it is more of a fun, intriguing, and supremely helpful non-fiction book.
It was helpful for a class I took over the summer. This is an older edition, but my teacher told us we could get this one because it is basically the same thing as the new one, with the exception of a few of the topics arranged differently within the chapters.
Came in perfect condition. Not much else to say, it’s a book required for a college course.
