About the Author
Ian Graham studied applied physics and journalism before starting work as a writer and editor for a group of electronics, computer and video magazines in London. After three years, he went freelance and has been writing mainly children's illustrated non-fiction books ever since then. My five-year-old grandson found a mistake in this book. Pages six and seven show the asteroid belt between Jupiter and Saturn, when it is actually between Mars and Jupiter. This should be corrected for future printings of this book.
This was a gift for a 6 year old boy. When he unwrapped it, his response was "awesome, I love space and spaceships. He has spent many hours looking at it, over and over. Granted, you might be able to find this at a library, but for a child to have something like this on hand when wanted, I am willing to buy it. I hope that it encourages his thirst for knowledge on space and science too.
I purchased this book for Christmas (as well as a spaceship floor puzzle) and my 4 year old loves this book. He can spend hours looking at the pictures and then more hours having us read him details. The pictures are beautiful and colorful.I would recommend this book for anyone into spaceships, rocket ships, etc. I even enjoyed it myself. I think it is also great on the educational scale. My son takes this book to bed with him and hugs it like it is his baby. I'm glad I purchased the hardcover! They may have to come out with a board book of this book if he keeps this up! It has also encouraged his imagination on space and space travel. Great book!
My four-year-old son became obsessed with the space shuttle after we saw the Endevour on exhibit at the California Science Center. After looking for a space shuttle book (very difficult to find), we bought this book for him instead. It is an excellent introduction to space and the space vehicles developed over the past 60 years. The book is meant for older children - six- or seven-year-olds will get more out of it than preschoolers - but even a four-year-old can marvel over the pictures of rockets and spacecraft and the idea of going to the moon.

This is a wonderful book and nicely illustrated. Bought this for my 3 year old grandson for his birthday. Besides trains he loves learning about the planets and rocket ships. A good book for preschoolers and children who are interested in rockets and space!
Great book for my 2 year old who recently developed an obsession with space shuttles. Lots of pictures but also educational.
I was worried that our 6 yr old grandson might not like all of the technical details but the pictures are great and he was familiar with enough of the words it held his interest. Not a book you can read completely at bedtime but very informative.
