This workbook would be so much easier to use if it was spiral bound. It is difficult to draw/write on the left side because the page will not lie flat.

I had toyed with the idea of purchasing this workbook for some time until I ran across a review of it by another artist on YouTube (who swore he did not know Mr. Dunn and had no affiliation with him) that was greatly impressed by the lessons and exercises in Volumes 1 and 2. I was not what you would call an expert with pen n ink but I did okay, and while I don't have Volume 1, I can definitely say that Volume 2 is a very good set of exercises for developing or sharpening your skills. IF you go through the exercises in this workbook and practice them until you're happy with your results, I have no doubt your skills will be greatly improved. I have seen a definite improvement in my inking skills although I wouldn't go so far as to say that I've mastered the media, but I'm working on it. LOL. It's a very good guide for beginners or the not so advanced such as myself.

Exactly what I needed. I love the examples and exercises that Alphonso has included in this book. This is the first workbook I have seen of its kind. He breaks the examples down in a way that's very easy to understand and apply to your own drawings unlike most "learn to draw ___" books, that only show you some basic construction lines.I've been a follower on YouTube for a while and have his other book as well, and I think this may be his best work yet.

I have several books on drawing with pen and ink, but this is the first that provides structured exercises for consistent practice, which is key to growth as an artist. Everything is set up for you, so it’s easier to set aside some time daily to do these. I use marker paper (which is translucent), rather than writing in the book, but making photocopies and working on the printer paper would work just as well, or better (as long as those copies are strictly for personal use, and not for distribution elsewhere, b/c this material is copyright protected).The first book was okay (lots of the information could be found elsewhere), but this one is a keeper!

This is what I have been looking for, a practical, hands on approach to teaching the mechanics of drawing with pen. I also have AD’s first book and I intend to use them together.My idea is to copy the workbook pages and then use them for daily practice until I feel I have mastered each skill.

This is amazing. It really teaches you the stokes you need to improve your drawing and inking skills.I have seen an increase in the photo quility of my ink and pencil drawings.

I purchased this book along with Alphonso Dunn's book Pen and Ink Drawing and couldn't be more pleased with the content. He breaks everything down to the simplest basics and illustrates clearly what he wants the student to do. He demystifies the process! I would recommend this book to any age level!

I do love the work of Alfonse Dunn; however, I think he limited his audience with his first workbook about mark making. Instead of encouraging experimentation -- which is natural to artists -- he drew boxes to fill in. Instead of offering insight to creativity in how to use marks effectively, the author drew the outline of an object, and asked the reader to once again fill in the space. Expecting to improve my drawing, one of the words in the book title, I was disappointed. It is a good book for those learning to draw, but if you are experienced, then buy Dunn's book.
