So few people have reviewed this after they have their test results that I decided I'd wait until my son got his. We initially purchased another book that was completely worthless, rife with errors. So I ordered this one. He found it straight forward and easy to work through. He sat for the test in June and was able to finish in time and felt good about it. He just got his results and easily passed (96% correct answers). He says he thinks it helped.
We found numerous mistakes in the answer key for the Practice Math Exams. How infuriating. My husband has a BS in Math and almost tossed the book out the window. Some of the graphs were illegible too. Tried to write to the publisher, clearly they didn't even spend even one hour taking their own tests. Grrrr.Edited: a couple days later we found two more errors in the Reading Subtest Practice Exam #1 answer key.
This book does overprepare you in some areas, like statistics. However, I do believe this is beneficial. Statistics was an area that I felt uncomfortable in previously, and when I took the CHSPE this morning, I aced all the statistics problems because I had done harder ones with this prep book. Also, the reading and writing questions felt slightly harder in this book than on the real test; again, I like this aspect because it makes taking the test feel simple and routine.
I purchased this book approx. 6 months before my daughter was to take the CHSPE. She did not need the math sections of the book (having previously passed the math portion of the test), so I cannot comment on that part. But the Language Arts section was helpful for practice and review. The format of the book is to give a lesson, and then give practice questions based on lessons covered up to that point. We found many of the lessons, while helpful for gaining extra knowledge, very detailed and way beyond the scope of high school English. Nevertheless, she was able to use the book to gain experience and confidence for the CHSPE. P.S. She passed!
My son followed this guide and passed the exam. He felt well-prepared and the instructions were easy to follow.

This is one of only two review books I found for the CHSPE, so I'm glad it's so thorough! My only complaint with this book is that it's a little too dense; it breaks concepts down into minute facts, especially the grammar section, so that you end up memorizing rather than really understanding. However, there is much that I appreciate about this book, especially its full-length self-assessment with explanations for each answer.
