Cynthia A. Brewer is a professor and chair of the Department of Geography at Pennsylvania State University. She teaches introductory cartography and map design courses and advises graduate students working in cartography. She has worked as a map and atlas design consultant for the US Census Bureau, National Cancer Institute, National Center for Health Statistics, and National Park Service. I bought this because I make maps as part of my job. I'd like to learn how to make better ones and this book had some helpful tips, especially when it comes to making maps for people who are color blind. Something that never occurred to me. Many of the examples are nice, text placement, text size, fonts, colors, etc. Overall, it's a nice addition to my library and I consult it on occasion when I need to.
I love this book. I have been a GIS user for 10 years and really only came upon this book last year. It really helped me to improve my maps through thorough explanation of methods of map development and great examples. It didn't take me long to get through the book, but the information was valuable: clear and concise. It gave me changes I could implement the very next day at work- and I did. I wish I had found this book 10 years ago.
Got a nice new version and am really enjoying it. Got it for class, but it is a book I might use in my career as well.
This GIS cartography book comes with lots of pictures and the font is easy to read. No issues regarding shipping from the seller.
Good visual reading for anyone looking to make their maps look more professional.
Do not buy it check from library or whatever
This book will be mostly pretty basic for anyone who is trained as a designer since it relies on standard design methodologies to display map information (as it should!). I thought that this book was very well illustrated and well written and I enjoyed having it on-hand for a work project.
This is an older addition, but this is a great reference book.
